The dog, wandering the streets alone, was eventually found by Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC). Without a microchip to identify him, the shelter staff didn’t know he had a loving owner searching for him.
Upon his arrival at the shelter, the staff fell in love with his gentle and sweet nature, naming him Jose. Although he was a bit reserved, they couldn’t know he was missing his dad and dreaming of being reunited with him.
Enchanted by Jose, the staff shared a video of him on the shelter’s TikTok account. “At 135 pounds, he was an adorable, gentle giant [who] was too endearing not to share,” they said.

A Serendipitous Discovery
Meanwhile, Mecca had no news of his beloved dog and was losing hope. Weeks after his dog disappeared, he stumbled upon the TikTok video of his pup.
Seeing his dog’s adorable face again, Mecca was overwhelmed with joy. His best friend was safe and sound.
Mecca immediately contacted ACC, telling the staff that the dog’s name was Mecca Jr. and that he was his rightful owner. The staff verified his claim with photos from Mecca’s TikTok account and invited him to the shelter.

The next morning, Mecca rushed to the shelter. The moment Mecca Jr. saw his beloved human, he couldn’t contain his excitement. He transformed into a completely different dog, wagging his tail furiously and smiling broadly.
“As soon as Jose saw him, he shed his gentle, aloof demeanor, revealing his true wiggly and goofy self. He showered his dad with nonstop hugs,” ACC shared.
Mecca kissed his canine companion, elated to have him back. Typically, the shelter follows a procedure to verify rightful owners, but in Mecca Jr.’s case, his reaction was all the proof they needed.
After completing the paperwork, Mecca Jr. stepped out of the shelter with his favorite human, his face beaming with happiness. The dog and his dad headed home, overjoyed to be together again.
