Three years ago, a woman, on her regular walk by a park in Mexico, stumbled upon a sight that tugged at her heartstrings.
By a chain-link fence, an abandoned dog trembled, echoing loneliness. What magnified the poignancy of the scene was the dog’s inability to see the world. The pup had no eyes.

Feeling helpless, the woman took to social media, sharing the dog’s story on Facebook, imploring for assistance.

Mauricio Perez came across the heart-wrenching post. Without a second thought, he said,
“Without hesitating, I went to go find her,” Perez told The Dodo. “She was super skinny. Her bones were showing.”

However, from that moment on, hope took root. Mauricio cradled the scared dog, comforting her with his warmth.

“We bathed her with my girlfriend’s help and rushed her to the vet,” Mauricio narrated. The vet speculated that her condition might have been a result of trauma or a neglected infection.

“It’s possible she was mistreated by her previous owners, but we’ll never truly know,” he mused.

Mauricio christened her Concha and embarked on a journey to mend her spirit. “Earning her trust was a step-by-step process,” he emphasized.

“Gradually, as we showered her with love, her anxiety melted away, and a bond was forged.”

To aid her in her new surroundings, Mauricio initially equipped Concha with a “halo” device, ensuring she didn’t bump into objects.
But Concha’s tenacity surprised him. “She memorized the layout—doors, furniture, even her food dish.

Her intelligence is astounding,” Mauricio proudly shared. And more than physical spaces, Concha found warmth in human touch. “She’s always seeking closeness,” he added.
The transformation of the once-timid Concha is a testament to Mauricio’s unwavering love. “Today, she’s a picture of joy, health, and confidence,” he beams.
Their story goes beyond rescue. It’s about two souls finding each other. “Concha has filled our lives with so much love,” Mauricio reflected, “and I’m elated we could reciprocate in kind.”
