Dog Found Chained to a Fence with a Note Continues to Hold Onto Hope

Dog Found Chained to a Fence with a Note Continues to Hold Onto Hope

Despite the heartache of being left chained to a fence with just a simple note attached, young Goose, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix, still found the strength to wag his tail for a kind-hearted passerby.

“Goose is incredibly affectionate towards humans,” said Lindsey Hawkins, now Goose’s doting mom and friend of the kind soul who found him, while speaking to The Dodo.

“His first instinct, upon seeing someone, was to hope for some affection.”

The brief note left with Goose read, “No time. Please take him.” The person who found Goose did just that. Even in his unfortunate state, dirty and infested with ticks, Goose’s resilience shone through.

The veterinarians who attended to him took their time, ensuring Goose’s comfort and well-being while addressing his health concerns.

Through all this, Goose’s gentle nature remained evident. “He understood our intent,” commented Hawkins. “He felt the care.”

Upon being discharged, Hawkins took him in with the idea of fostering. But during the drive home, Goose’s affection was clear as he tried to snuggle close to her.

Initially, Goose seemed overwhelmed by the indoors, probably having spent most of his life outside. He was hesitant to venture onto hardwood floors or furniture.

But within a few days, surrounded by his new family, including chickens and an elderly therapy dog named Zeus, Goose started to settle in.

His connection with the family solidified within days. Recalling a touching moment, Hawkins shared, “Goose, in his own way, thanked my husband by resting his head against him.”

Only a fortnight since his arrival, and Goose’s transformation is heartwarming. He’s evolved from a somber, reserved pup to one full of zest and mischief.

He’s taken to the indoors like a fish to water, hopping onto beds and playing around without reservations.

The outdoors, especially rolling around in the yard, remains a favorite activity. And thanks to his new canine siblings, Goose has found a new passion — toys.

He gleefully tumbles around, clutching a toy, much to the family’s amusement.

His uplifting spirit, growing day by day, has made Hawkins consider a future role for Goose. Mirroring his elder dog-sibling, Zeus, Goose might have a future as a therapy dog.

Hawkins mused, “Given Goose’s journey and spirit, he could very well become an exceptional therapy dog someday.”
