Adopting a dog with special needs is a journey of patience and love, a path Kayleigh Ostot chose when she welcomed Tamale into her life. Tamale, a rescue dog with a genetic condition, was born both blind and deaf—a double merle Australian Shepherd with a zest for life that’s nothing short of inspiring.

Tamale’s story began when Speak For The Unspoken, a rescue organization, posted about him. At just four months old, Tamale’s spirit shone through, and Kayleigh knew he was meant to be part of her family. Despite his challenges, Tamale’s friendly demeanor was undeniable.

Life for Tamale had its obstacles, with the young pup often bumping into things. But he quickly demonstrated that he was more than his impairments. He was a friend-maker, a spirit-lifter, and soon, he would meet his match in companionship.

As 2020 brought the world to a standstill, Tamale found a silver lining in Jimmy, another canine soul. Their friendship blossomed in a dog park and grew through shared walks and adventures. “They see each other at least once a week, if not more,” Kayleigh recounted.
Jimmy noticed Tamale’s unique way of experiencing the world. He didn’t gaze at sunsets or chase squirrels, but he certainly recognized the presence of his friend through scent. And so, Jimmy’s signature greeting was born: a gentle nose boop to signal his arrival.

Tamale’s story, along with his human and furry family, is a testament to leading a life defined not by limitations but by love and happiness.
Their journey is one that continues to captivate hearts on social media, where Tamale’s family shares their life’s moments, proving that joy comes in many forms—even those unseen.
