In the heart of Petworth, Washington D.C., Tre and Alicia, a compassionate couple, always had room in their hearts for dogs. When friends introduced them to a petite Pittie puppy that had wandered into their yard, the couple was instantly smitten.
As Tre shared with The Dodo, “The loving, human part of you kicks in where you have compassion for this animal who’s going through this challenge.” Aptly named Pumpkin for her unique appearance, she was frail and undernourished when she first arrived at her new home.

Had she been alone for another day, her chances of survival would have been slim. But fate had other plans, and with Tre and Alicia’s unwavering support, Pumpkin began her journey to recovery.
A Bundle of Joy and Cuddles

From day one, Pumpkin’s vibrant personality shone through. Small in size but large in spirit, she was a playful, affectionate pup who loved nothing more than to cuddle.
Alicia fondly recalls, “She’s like a big dog in a small dog’s body. She always sits in my lap or right next to me. She tries to sleep on top of my computer.” Despite her size, Pumpkin’s charm was irresistible.

Even Laila, the couple’s older dog who was selective about her canine friends, was quickly won over. The two became inseparable, often found snuggled up together, proving that love knows no bounds.

Life took a bittersweet turn when Laila passed away in 2019, leaving a void in the family. However, the end of the year brought joy with the arrival of a baby girl.
Through all the changes, Pumpkin’s loving nature remained constant. Her bond with the newest family member was instant and profound. The duo became inseparable, sharing adventures and cuddles alike.
