Donna Lochmann began her day, as usual, prepped for a rescue mission that was always fraught with unexpected challenges. Yet, her commitment was unwavering.
“Time to save a dog in need!” announced Donna, a seasoned rescuer with Stray Rescue of St.Louis, following a distress call for medical aid.
Her colleague, Natalie Thompson, swiftly joined her, both driven by the shared mission to save a vulnerable life.
However, the streets of St. Louis held a surprise for them.

As Donna accelerated to their destination, Natalie suddenly urged her to stop. “I think I spotted something small on the side street,” she exclaimed, suspecting it might be another dog in distress.
Although both felt the urge to investigate, they agreed to first complete their primary mission before returning.

With their initial rescue mission swiftly concluded, they set out to find the dog Natalie had spotted.
A Hidden Surprise
Revisiting the side street, they found no trace of the dog. Disappointed yet determined, Natalie began scouting the nearby alley, where she spotted a thin dog in haste. Before she could approach, the dog disappeared into an old multi-floor building.

Compelled to rescue the dog, Natalie reached for her slip lead only to realize she’d left it with another rescued dog in their vehicle.
Upon retrieving it and returning, she found the room empty. But, spotting another exit, she traced the dog to an open field. Armed with Vienna sausages, she soon won the dog’s trust.
Naming her “Dodie” for her doll-like face, they prepared to take her to safety.

Having secured Dodie, Donna, and Natalie brought her for medical evaluation. The resilient pup sailed through the tests, with her only issue being undernourishment. Consequently, she was put on a monitored feeding plan.

Today, Dodie enjoys the warmth of a loving foster home, cared for by her foster mom, Nicolina, and the supportive team of volunteers, wrapped in genuine affection and a cozy blanket.
