The anguish of a missing pet is a pain few can fathom. Such was the torment for the Bohnert family when their beloved Abby vanished one day in June 2022.
Despite their tireless search, spanning neighbors’ help to social media appeals, the days of uncertainty stretched into agonizing weeks.

However, fate had a different plan. Two months into Abby’s disappearance, a team of cavers, charting the depths of the Missouris Moore Cave System, made an unexpected discovery.
Nestled at the base of a 12-foot pit, they found a dog, weak but alive.
With determination and quick thinking, cavers Frank Keene and Rick Haley orchestrated a meticulous vertical rescue, using a blanket-lined duffle bag to cradle and lift the frail canine.

The tale took a heartwarming turn when Assistant Fire Chief Rob Calhoun, involved in the rescue, identified the dog as the missing Abby.

The Bohnert family’s despair transformed into overwhelming joy, reuniting with their treasured pet they had feared was gone forever.
Even Rachel, their daughter away at college, was overjoyed at the news of her childhood companion’s incredible survival.
