Upon arrival at the Albergue de Animales Dog House rescue in Spain, a 10-month-old puppy was in such a dire state that she couldn’t even stand.
Weighing a mere 16 pounds, her frailty earned her the name Barilla, reminiscent of Spaghetti due to her condition.
Eduardo Rodriguez, the head of the rescue in Granada, Spain, was deeply moved by the Belgian malinois mix. He resolved to assist Barilla in regaining her strength.

“When she first came to us, the only parts of her that could move were her head and tail,” Rodriguez recounted to the Daily Mail.
“She lacked muscle mass. I’ve encountered many distressed dogs in my life, but never one as debilitated as Barilla.”

It’s suspected that Barilla was intentionally neglected for months, possibly confined without adequate care.
Given her state, the veterinarian believed she wouldn’t have lasted another day. Barilla received immediate medical attention, including a vital drip and eventual feeding.

To aid her mobility and muscle building, she was given a unique harness.
Over subsequent months, Rodriguez and his team dedicated their efforts to nourishing Barilla, both physically and emotionally.

With consistent care and abundant love, Barilla transformed. Recognizing her incredible journey and resilience, Rodriguez decided she would be a permanent member of his family.

“Her progression has been nothing short of miraculous. She quickly adapted to frequent meals, gaining approximately two pounds daily. Now weighing 46 pounds, she’s well on her path to complete recovery,” he said.

“Comparing her initial rescue photos to recent ones, it’s like looking at two different dogs. We’ve formed an unbreakable bond. From the moment I saw her, I knew she’d be mine.”
