Dog owners are being asked to check their cans after Mars Petcare announced a recall involving two lots of Pedigree wet dog food.
The recall affects certain 13.2-ounce cans of Pedigree High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor Wet Dog Food. According to the recall announcement published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on July 2, 2026, the affected food may contain hard pieces of metal and plastic.
Which Pedigree Dog Food Is Being Recalled?
The recall applies only to the following product:
Product: Pedigree High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor Wet Dog Food
Can size: 13.2 ounces
Lot codes: 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC
Dog owners can find the lot code printed on the bottom of the can.
No other Pedigree products or Mars Petcare products are included in the recall. This means owners do not need to throw away every can of Pedigree food they have at home. They only need to check for the two affected lot codes.
Why Was The Dog Food Recalled?
Mars Petcare said the affected cans did not meet the company’s safety and quality standards.
The two lots had reportedly been sent to a third-party company to be destroyed. Mars later discovered that the products appeared to have been fraudulently diverted and sold in the United States instead.
The company is now working with authorities to determine how the cans entered the marketplace. Mars has not announced the specific stores or states where the recalled products may have been sold.
What Could Happen If A Dog Eats The Food?
The recalled cans may contain pieces of hard or sharp metal combined with plastic.
If swallowed, sharp foreign objects can cause serious problems for dogs. Potential risks include:
- Choking
- Cuts or lacerations
- Blockages in the stomach or intestines
- Other gastrointestinal injuries
Mars Petcare said it had not received any reports of dogs becoming sick or injured in connection with the recalled food as of the July 2 announcement.
Dog owners should still watch their pets carefully if they believe the recalled food was already consumed.
Possible warning signs after swallowing a foreign object can include vomiting, refusing food, difficulty swallowing, unusual drooling, stomach pain, low energy or trouble passing stool. Owners who notice concerning symptoms should contact a veterinarian immediately.
What Should Dog Owners Do?
Anyone with a can carrying one of the affected lot codes should stop feeding it to their dog.
Do not attempt to remove any visible pieces and serve the remaining food. The entire affected can should be kept away from pets.
Customers can contact Pedigree Consumer Care to request a replacement product or ask questions about the recall.
Pedigree Consumer Care: 1-800-525-5273
Representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central Time and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Time.
Owners who already fed the recalled product to their dog and are concerned about possible exposure should contact their veterinarian.
Check The Bottom Of Your Cans
The most important thing owners can do is check the bottom of every 13.2-ounce can of Pedigree High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor in their home.
The only recalled lot codes are:
613C3KKCFC
613C1KKCFC
Cans with different lot codes are not included in this recall.
Because the affected products may have been sold in the United States after they were supposed to be destroyed, dog owners may still have the cans stored in their homes.
Checking the lot number only takes a few seconds and could help prevent a potentially serious injury.
