Caught on surveillance footage, the emotional scene displayed the mother canine navigating Istanbul’s rainy Beylikduzu streets on January 13. Carrying her fragile pup in her jaws, she made her way to the clinic, hoping for aid.
Upon noticing the mother dog outside, Emir, a vet assistant at the Beylikduzu Alfa Veterinary Clinic, quickly opened the doors and took the pup from her mouth. Initially, the small male pup seemed lifeless.
“My colleague Emir discovers that a dog is at the door,” mentioned veterinarian Baturalp Dogan. “He opens it without delay and investigates. Initially, he is perplexed by the scene: a dog comes with her offspring in its mouth and puts it on the floor. It’s initially unclear if the pup is alive or not.”
The young pup was chilling to the touch. They suspected the puppy had passed, but Emir managed to detect a weak pulse with a stethoscope.
“Using a needle, I detected a weak pulse,” Dogan reported. “So I said, ‘There’s a chance he might make it,’ and we leapt into action.”
The team acted swiftly, administering an adrenaline injection and using a hair dryer to warm him. The devoted mother remained nearby, attentively watching as they fought for her pup’s life.
Their perseverance paid off — the puppy pulled through. The clinic also learned that another puppy from Mom’s litter, also a male, had been brought in earlier by a local resident. Out of her six puppies, these two were the only survivors.
“The puppies and their mom are now thriving, healthy and improving every day,” Dogan stated. “They are gradually recovering. It’s a journey that requires time, but I’m optimistic about their future.”. Users on social media have expressed their desire for Mom and her puppies to find a caring home.
